Our First Ever Djook Weaving Session!

Last week a variety of yorgas from Wungening and our partner organisations were invited to attend a weaving session hosted by Bronwyn Dillon at our East Perth hub.

Bronwyn, a Pinterairrer woman of the Tebrikunna people, was taught how to weave form a young age by her family, and utilises it as a way to remain connected to her country, culture and ancestors.

The yorgas started the day with a traditional welcome to country, followed by group introductions.

From there, Bronwyn began to teach the women the weaving materials and the stitching process, followed by the type of weaving items they could make- from brooches, earrings, keychains to bigger items that take more practice such as baskets.

After a couple of hours weaving, everyone stopped for some hearty pumpkin soup before resuming their weaving.

At the end of the day, all the yorgas had made a deadly earring set and spent some quality time together.
