Wandjoo to Wungening Moort
The need to keep our koolangka and young people safe at home, connected to Boodja, culture and community, runs strong in our Aboriginal families.
The impacts of colonisation, including the Stolen Generations, have hurt many families and contributed to an over-representation of our children in the child protection system.
Here at Wungening Moort, we recognise that caring for koolangka can sometimes be a struggle when carrying intergenerational trauma. We also know that your moort and parenting strengths can go unnoticed by the child protection system.
We’re here to help you keep your koolangka safe at home or to take the steps you need to bring your little ones home.
How we support you to keep koolangka at home
If you’re needing support to keep your moort together and have an open case within the child protection system, Wungening Moort can be a lifeline. Our service is culturally safe, responsive and practical – with our mission to help keep your koolangka safe at home with loving moort, community and culture.
We will visit you and your moort at home (or somewhere comfortable) and help you to come up with a plan, supporting you to be the best parent you can.
We’ll support you in the areas of:
- Parenting and relationships
- Budgeting
- Cooking and nutrition
- Family appointments
- School support and home routines
- Counselling and other supports
We can connect you to other services to get support for alcohol and drug use, family violence, health issues and any other concerns.
Here’s how to seek Wungening Moort’s support

Danjoo Moort
Danjoo Moort is a moorditj Wungening program that re-empowers mob by encouraging Aboriginal family-led decision-making (AFLDM) about the future of their moort. It runs out of our Mirrabooka Hub.
This service gives you an opportunity to make a plan about the safety and wellbeing of your koolangka. The meetings can take place where your moort feels comfortable. The best part is, all AFLDM meetings are run by independent Aboriginal convenors from Wungening’s Danjoo Moort program Referral to this program is through your Department of Communities (Child Protection and Family Support) case worker, but only with your approval.
You can choose:
- If you want to take part in the AFLDM
- Where to have the meeting
- Who will come to the meeting
