Wungening wins the 2026 Australian Evaluation Society’s (AES) Indigenous Evaluation award

Wungening was awarded the 2026 Australian Evaluation Society’s (AES) Indigenous Evaluation award last week at the annual AES International Conference in Darwin.

The AES Awards Group recognised the evaluation as an excellent example of culturally grounded evaluation practice demonstrating strong engagement with Aboriginal participants, staff and organisational leaders.

Wungening’s CEO Daniel Morrision-Bird said the award affirms the lived expertise of Aboriginal communities.

‘For me, this award recognises the strength, knowledge and wisdom in Aboriginal communities. Aboriginal people should be the ones defining what matters and how it’s measured, and decisions about our communities should be led by Aboriginal experience and leadership. We hope this award also creates more space for Aboriginal knowledge, leadership and ways of working to be recognised, respected and valued in evaluation and beyond,’ he said.
