Family & Domestic Violence Support Services

Wandjoo to Wooree Miya

Our Wooree Miya yorgas’ refuge sits on Boorloo’s family and domestic violence (FDV) frontline – providing a culturally safe, round-the-clock refuge for ngaangk and their koolangka (mothers and their children).

Wooree Miya is an Aboriginal-led, 24/7 crisis service that offers secure, short-term accommodation for djookian and koolangka who are escaping moort violence and have nowhere safe to go.

Our peaceful, purpose-built facility offers shelter and care for big families. And our nurturing staff understand the many harms caused by violence – and respect that the main harm caused is damage to dignity.

Our other FDV programs

Aboriginal Safe At Home

Wungening is proud to partner with Starick in running the Aboriginal Safe At Home program. This program provides culturally safe support to yorgas and koolangka experiencing family domestic violence, by allowing them to stay in their homes when safe, or to return home following their stay.

It’s run on the premise that clients know how to stay safe – and may only need help planning and having the right equipment to make that happen. This can include a boost to home security with alarms and sensor lights, adding locks to doors and windows, or adding padlocks to mailboxes, service boxes and gates.

Moorditj Bidi

Moorditj Bidi (Strong Path) is a rapid-rehousing program for yorgas and koolangka.

It offers a flexible FDV and culturally informed approach to allow djookians, with or without koolangka, to successfully transition from crisis accommodation to secure tenancies in the private rental market by providing substantial subsidies toward the bond and rent.
