Counsellor/Educator Package

Reporting to the Wungening AOD Manager, the AOD Counsellor/Educator (Acacia – In Community Support) will provide strengths-based holistic throughcare and relapse prevention support to referred inmates who are deemed low-risk of reoffending.

Skills and experience

To be suitable for this role the following is essential:

  1. Aboriginality
  2. Case Management experience
  3. Support work experience in justice and/or community services, ideally within ACCOs.
  4. A good understanding of Aboriginal culture and community, and issues impacting Aboriginal people.
  5. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  6. Good engagement skills and well respected within Aboriginal community.
  7. Strong knowledge of networks outside of prison system that can be utilized and linked with to support your clients when exiting prison.
  8. Vocational or life experience displaying the ability to share experience and narrative in a positive way.
  9. Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
