With a Vision for “a healthy, safe, strong and sustainable Aboriginal community”, Wungening Aboriginal Corporation (Wungening) is a progressive, innovative and sector leading Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation. At Wungening we pride ourselves on providing a range of culturally secure, confidential and free of charge services for Aboriginal people who live in the Perth metropolitan area.

Our purpose is to be the centre of excellence in delivering culturally secure and holistic services that improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and families in the Aboriginal community by strengthening and healing the mind, body and spirit.  These services include Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) therapeutic supports, youth justice programs, as well as a short term supported accommodation Refuge for women and children escaping family and domestic violence.

We are currently recruiting for the following positions

Counsellor/Educator - AOD

About the role

The AOD Counsellor Educator is responsible for providing counselling and education services to clients with alcohol and other substance abuse issues.  This will involve the Initial assessment of the client and their presenting situation in order to develop an appropriate counselling and case management intervention plan. You will also be required to work with internal and external stakeholders.

As a public benevolent institution (PBI) we are able to offer you up to $15,900.00 cash value per FBT year ($30,000 gross) as a tax free component of your salary.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Demonstrable actions and behaviours that are representative of the Values of Wungening Aboriginal Corporation.
  • Education, training and/or experience in providing counselling and/or support to Aboriginal people.
  • Developed interview, assessment and referral skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Aboriginal culture, protocols, boundaries and experience working within the Aboriginal community.
  • Knowledge in the issues and services that relate to AOD affected people.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a part of a team.
  • Current 'C' class WA drivers licence, National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, right to obtain Justice Department Clearance.

Family Support Workers - Wungening Moort

About the role

Family Support Worker Package

The Wungening Moort program operates out of four hubs – As a Family Support Worker you will provide a culturally appropriate in depth family support outreach service to assist Aboriginal families with children aged 0-17 in contact with the child protection system within the Perth metropolitan area. You will work within a small team to engage and assist parents/caregivers to build their capacity to provide ongoing support and protection for their vulnerable and at risk children in a home setting. The service will encompass strengths based therapeutic approaches to resolve personal and family issues and build resilience and capacity to respond to crisis, create a safe, protective environment and improve connectedness to the community and to available resources.

Skills and experience

  • Aboriginality
  • Experience working in family support, including parenting skill development, and a qualification in a relevant area at Certificate IV or higher.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and community.
  • Understanding and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander families and children in contact with the child protections system, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to be part of a team in order to deliver a quality service and achieve client outcomes.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.

Senior Family Support Worker - Wungening Moort

About the role

Senior Family Support Worker Package

Reporting to the Team Leader you will work in tandem with the Aboriginal Family Support Worker to provide culturally appropriate counselling services and crisis support to resolve issues and assist Aboriginal families with children aged 0-17 in contact with the child protection system within the Perth metropolitan area. You will provide practical in-home supports, assist parents/caregivers to resolve personal and family issues and build resilience and capacity to respond to crisis and assist with creating a safe, protective environment.

What we are looking for

Essential:

  1. Clinical and counselling experience in a child protection/family support setting, and a qualification in a relevant area at Diploma level or higher.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
  3. Understanding and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander families and children in contact with the child protections system, or a related field.
  4. Demonstrated ability to be part of a team in order to deliver a quality service and achieve client outcomes.
  5. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.

Desirable:

  1. Aboriginality
  2. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and act decisively.
