About the service

The new Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Recovery and Rehabilitation Unit, located within Casuarina prison supports participants to develop and achieve their individual recovery plans through the Solid Steps AOD Recovery Program.

Wungening Aboriginal Corporation and Palmerston Association are the partners working closely with the Department of Justice to provide a community within the unit which facilitates a recovery focused, culturally responsive and safe program for participants. We are offering a number of opportunities to Recovery Program Workers (Support Workers) who want to be part of a meaningful and unique program which makes a difference in the lives of individuals and the community.

Our Recovery Program teams will be supported by our Senior Recovery Educators to provide group and individual program activities in accordance with the service model. They provide guidance and support to participants in pursuit and achievement of program and individual goals through maintaining a positive, culturally safe presence.

Skills and experience

Our team of Recovery Program Workers will have;

  • Demonstrated capacity to work responsibly in accordance with service policy and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and support with a range of people from culturally and linguistically (CALD) diverse backgrounds, in particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Proven experience in group facilitation
  • Proven experience in the delivery of one on one support sessions
  • Understanding of motivational interviewing techniques and trauma informed care and practice
  • Comprehension of supporting individuals with complex and co-occurring needs
