About the service

The Moorditj Mia (Strong Home) program is an Aboriginal Housing First Support Service (AHFSS) delivered by a consortium of ACCO’s (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations) led by Noongar Mia Mia, with Ngalla Maya Aboriginal Corporation and Wungening Aboriginal Corporation.

The Moorditj Mia service model is based on an exciting “One Team” approach, an ACCO consortium model, shared between Noongar Mia Mia, Ngalla Maya, and Wungening Aboriginal Corporation, and is committed to ending rough sleeping for Aboriginal people. Services are delivered by Aboriginal organizations for Aboriginal people.

The Consortium will draw on its strengths and expertise in housing, alcohol and other drugs, family, mental health and relationships, adult and youth justice, intensive child and family support, family and domestic violence, training and employment and Aboriginal case management, to deliver the necessary holistic approach to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Perth metropolitan region.

About the role

Case Worker Package

Reporting to the Moorditj Mia Coordinator, this positions provides culturally appropriate assertive outreach and in-reach case work. The keys functions of the role are to:

  • Identify people sleeping rough
  • Engage people into appropriate services, refer them into housing through the Finding Home Program or other suitable accommodation and/or services
  • Support people to maintain their tenancy and prevent them from cycling back into homelessness.

Essential to the role

Successful candidates will:

  • Previous experience in a support or case worker role in a culturally responsive and trauma informed service (lived experience valuable but not essential)
  • Experience working with Aboriginal people
  • Ability to work flexibly, creatively and in a salutation focussed way.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and develop and maintain contacts and networks across a wide range of local services.
  • Be assertive, confident, persistent, resilient and have excellent negotiation and advocacy skills
  • A commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion and the rights of people experiencing rough sleeping.
