About the service

The Specialist Housing First Rapid Response Team is a new initiative led by St Patrick’s Community Support Centre alongside Ruah, UnitingWA and Wungening Aboriginal Corporation. The Housing First Rapid Response Team is a multi-agency response to help alleviate some of the growing pressures on homelessness in the Perth metropolitan area, whilst supporting the groundwork for the roll-out of the Housing First Homelessness Initiative programs funded by the State Government.

St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, Wungening and Uniting are recruiting for a team of specialist housing supports workers/outreach workers dedicated to moving street present people into secure affordable and stable accommodation. These positions are fixed short term contracts with an immediate start.

About the role

Assertive Outreach Worker

We are looking for people with front line experience working with rough sleepers to join part of a specialist rapid response team to work with a group of people experiencing long term homelessness. You will be connecting them to secure accommodation and linking them into health, mental health, AOD and mainstream services.

Skills and experience

Successful candidates will:

  • Be familiar with the Housing First principals
  • Have Assertive Outreach Homelessness/Housing Support experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the delivery of holistic support to individuals experiencing crisis due to homelessness, risk of homelessness which may include substance abuse, disability and mental health issues
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work and communicate effectively with service staff, service users, community agencies and other professionals
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of support services including mental health, AOD services
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities particularly regarding transience and homelessness, trauma, cultural awareness and sensitivities
  • Have or able to obtain prior to commencement a current C class driver’s licence, Working with Children Check, current National Police Clearance
  • Be flexible to work across multiple locations.
